Codfish Dinner – March
This meal started during WWII to offer people a chance to share a table and have time in community to encourage and support each other. Both the need and the meal have continued since then. On the first Friday of March, we gather for a meal of baked fish and Swedish meatballs. We have two seatings – at 5 and 6:30 PM – and feature a signature mustard gravy, peas and carrots, potatoes, Havarti cheese and pumpernickel bread, and yummy desserts. Gluten-free meals are available.
Gather on the Green – September
Typically the second Saturday of September, this is an event that is for the whole community. It has taken various forms – sometimes including live music, movies on the lawn, yard games and crafts, and delicious food – but always seeks to build community for all who come. St. Peder’s has a nice open yard and you are welcome to come use it.
Æbleskiver Breakfast – November
One of our favorite annual traditions is the Æbleskiver Breakfast on the second Sunday of November. After worship, we serve delicious æbleskiver, a traditional Danish food resembling a round pancake often eaten with powdered sugar and jam. We serve this meal with sausage and fruit, and gluten-free options are available.
Song Service – December
The third Sunday of Advent is our Song Service, a time where many of our talented musicians showcase their talents in choral and instrumental music. The format changes, but the focus of worship through music remains central to this service. Afterward, we gather for special punch and kringle and dance around the Christmas tree while singing some of our favorite Christmas songs. If you’re trying this for the first time, don’t worry. It’s more of a walk than dance.
Danish Christmas Eve Worship – December
St. Peder’s was established by Danish immigrants and one of the ways that carries forward is the continuation of our Danish-language Christmas Eve Worship, which includes traditional liturgy and a special sense of community for both new guests and long-time attenders.
